Tilda Swinton, Ewan McGregor, Christoph Waltz & More Reportedly Join Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Pinocchio’

Guillermo del Toro might be knee-deep into production on his upcoming film, “Nightmare Alley,” his first since winning the Oscar for “The Shape of Water,” but that film isn’t the only project the filmmaker has been working on lately. In addition to the live-action “Nightmare Alley,” del Toro is also on board to direct a stop-motion animation version of “Pinocchio” for Netflix. And according to a new interview at a recent Comic-Con in Vienna, we now know who might be providing some voices for that film.

According to the Polish outlet Na Ekranie, actor David Bradley reveals that he will voice the character of Geppetto in the upcoming “Pinocchio” from Guillermo del Toro. In addition, Bradley, who is probably best known for playing Walder Frey in HBO’s “Game of Thrones,” reveals that he’ll be joined in the voice cast by the likes of Ron Perlman, Christoph Waltz, Tilda Swinton, and Ewan McGregor in the film. Unfortunately, we’re not sure which role each actor will voice.

Of course, we have to preface this by saying no official announcement has been made by del Toro or Netflix, so we should take Bradley’s words with a grain of salt. However, he does sound fairly certain in the interview that these folks are attached. And if so, that is one hell of a cast for the film, making our interest in the project reach new heights.

Guillermo del Toro’s “Pinocchio” isn’t the only version of the classic tale getting released soon. Recently, director Matteo Garrone directed a live-action version of the film in Italian, with Roberto Benigni starring as Geppetto. In addition, Disney recently hired Robert Zemeckis to direct the studio’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the story. However, according to del Toro, his version of “Pinocchio” is going to be very different than others.

“It’s not a ‘Pinocchio’ for all the family,” said del Toro in an interview from 2018 about the project, which is going to take a darker look at the character.

There’s no release date for the del Toro animated film. However, with “Nightmare Alley” taking up much of his time now, it’s likely we won’t get “Pinocchio” for at least a couple of years.
