Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams To Headline Suicide Bombing Pic

Posted Mar 13th 2007 3:31PM by Patrick WalshOn March 26th, filming begins on Incendiary, a contemporary drama about the emotional aftermath of a suicide bombing in London. The film will star Brokeback Mountain’s Michelle Williams, the impressively penised Ewan McGregor, and Matthew Macfadyen, who set bosoms heaving as Mr. Darcy in 2005’s highly entertaining retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Incendiary is set to be directed by Sharon Maguire, who hasn’t made a film since 2001’s considerably lighter Bridget Jones’ Diary. Maguire is adapting the screenplay from Chris Cleave’s novel about a woman whose life is torn apart when her husband and infant son are killed in a suicide bombing at a soccer match. Oh, and she was cheating on her husband at the time. Sounds like a fun one!Williams will play the devastated woman and McGregor the journalist she was cheating with. Macfadyen plays the ex-boss of the dead husband, a senior anti-terrorist police officer who is also in love with Williams. Juggling three suitors? Who is this girl, Zack Morris? Incendiary will be the first British movie bankrolled by Aramid Entertainment Fund, a new U.K. hedge fund specializing in media finance. The British government recently shut down the equity funds which have sent UK film production skyrocketing over the past couple years, and that crackdown is expected to increase the need for finance companies like Aramid.Producers are Andy Paterson and Anand Tucker, the team behind Girl With a Pearl Earring and Hilary and Jackie. Paterson says: “We fought hard for the rights to this story because it seemed to us to be a stunningly original, visceral and ultimately life-affirming response to the world we now inhabit. Sharon’s screenplay captures the startling humor of Chris Cleave’s extraordinary novel, and we’re blessed with our dream cast and financing partners, who represent a vision of the future for our battered industry.” I think any humor in this premise would have to be pretty startling, wouldn’t you say? It’s hard to milk laughs out of suicide bombings. I’m intrigued, and the casting sounds perfect. If anybody knows bombs, it’s McGregor.Source: cinematical.com
