Andrtei Harmsworth – Thursday, June 8, 2006The Royal Academy swung open the gates last night to the Art world A-listers and a batch of celebrities in London.Leading the stars who turned out to view the Academy’s annual summer blockbuster were, supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Aussie ‘body’ Elle MacPherson. The Aussie star rocked up in full summer swing, sporting a black summer mini and a smile to wow the crowd. After the show, the stars moved over to the other side of Piccadilly to the restaurant, Wolseley.Joining Claudia and Elle at the arty affair were Ewan McGregor, Craig David and Laura Parker Bowles.Other media bigwigs in attendance included, RA Exhibitions Secretary Norma Rosenthal, novelist Kathy Lette, TV executive Daisy Goodwin, actor Paul Bettany and Kimberly Quinn. At the re-opening of the legendary Roundhouse Theatre Ewan McGregor met up with his uncle, Bafta-nominated Bleak House actor Denis Lawson, the relative who originally inspired his decision to go into the business.Before Ewan could even lift a light sabre, Denis was busy saving the galaxy from evil as courageous fighter pilot Wedge Antilles in the series’ first three episodes.In case the two warriors were tempted to discuss battle tactics, they were joined by the Hollywood star’s mum Carol, who is Denis’ sister. Also on hand were Sadie Frost – one of Ewan’s former partners in the now defunct production company Natural Nylon – and actress Helen Mirren.Uncle and nephew have always been extremely close, with Ewan speaking on many occasions about his childhood longing to follow in his relative’s glamorous footsteps. “My uncle would appear back from London, where he lived in the Seventies, in sheepskin waistcoats and beads and no shoes,” recalled the 35-year-old Scotsman. “As an actor he had something about him that I liked and wanted to have.”The two performers have even had a chance to work together. (MGM) has expanded its theatrical distribution operations by announcing three new theatrical releases.The new MGM theatrical releases for 2006-2007 from The Weinstein Company, which will be continuing to oversee the marketing for its titles, include:Miss Potter, slated for release on December 29, 2006, explores the life of Beatrix Potter (Renee Zellweger), the author of the beloved and best-selling children’s classic “The Tale of Peter Rabbit” and her struggle to overcome a domineering and unsupportive mother and the chauvinism of Victorian England in an effort to become a published author. The charismatic and talented Academy Award? winning actress Renee Zellweger (Cinderella Man, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason) stars in the biopic directed by Chris Noonan (Babe). Kirschner Productions’ David Kirschner and Corey Sienega produced Miss Potter alongside Mike Medavoy, Arnie Messer and David Thwaites of Phoenix Pictures.
